Main Thought:
The book of Lamentations, fittingly, ends with a lament for the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem. Jeremiah has only one place to look for restoration—the Lord whose steadfast love delivered His people of old and is powerful to do it again.
Lamentations 5:16-22
The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
For this our heart has become sick,
for these things our eyes have grown dim,
for Mount Zion which lies desolate;
jackals prowl over it.
But you, O Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures to all generations.
Why do you forget us forever,
why do you forsake us for so many days?
Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored!
Renew our days as of old—
unless you have utterly rejected us,
and you remain exceedingly angry with us.
Hymn Verse
LSB 608:3 Lord, to You I Make Confession
For Your Son has suffered for me,
Giv’n Himself to rescue me,
Died to save me and restore me,
Reconciled and set me free.
Jesus’ cross alone can vanquish
These dark fears and soothe this anguish. Amen.
