Main Thought:
Even in death, or perhaps especially in death, we are made aware of God’s great benefits to us. The death of his saints is precious to the Lord because life is theirs through His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us lift up the cup of salvation and call on His name on this All Saints’ Day!
Psalm 116:10–19
I believed, even when I spoke:
“I am greatly afflicted”;
I said in my alarm,
“All mankind are liars.”
What shall I render to the Lord
for all his benefits to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
Prayer
O Lord, precious in Your sight is the death of Your saints. According to Your gracious will, deliver us from the trouble and sorrow of this life that, having received the cup of salvation, we may rejoice in Your heavenly Jerusalem; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Prayer for the Festival of All Saints
Almighty and everlasting God, You knit together Your faithful people of all times and places into one holy communion, the mystical body of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant us so to follow Your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that, together with them, we may come to the unspeakable joys You have prepared for those who love You; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
