Main Thought: The inscription of this psalm is “A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the Lord.” And so it begins with poignant images of distress.

Main Thought: This psalm describes the wicked as shooting arrows from the mouth, thinking no one will notice. Yet the judgment of God is also an arrow which suddenly brings their public downfall.

Main Thought: The preaching of the gospel is described as the light which emanates from the sun and moon. Indeed the light which we need to illumine our path comes from the word of God. St. Augustine preached this word powerfully and his work still brings light to people today.

Main Thought: This psalm recounts the covenantal history of Israel from Abraham to Moses. Notice how the providence of God “sent” Joseph ahead to Egypt in order to save His people.

Main Thought: We are amazingly blessed to have been born again in God’s Holy Church. Wherever you go, you are a child of God and citizen of His kingdom.

Main Thought: There is no hiding from God; His all-knowing presence is continually with us.  We may sometimes wish to veil ourselves, but ultimately God’s knowledge of us is a great comfort.  Today we remember St. Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael, whom Jesus knew before He even met him.
