This psalm recounts the troubles of the faithful man beset by deceitful and malicious enemies. This section describes the faithful man’s desire for God’s vengeance. Tomorrow’s psalm will continue with more explicit calls for deliverance.
(more…)The Anointed One (Messiah) was rejected by God and Divine wrath was poured on Christ because of our sins. His enemies rejoiced, but three days later His shame was turned to victory in the resurrection.

(more…)When we think on our sins we are often led to repentance. Sometimes we feel weighed down by them, but when we long for God He is not far. Indeed He promises to hear us and bring healing.
(more…)Christ was given sour wine on the cross as He suffered for our sins. We also see the role of Judas described whose camp became desolate. Yet Christ was resurrected and set on high at the right hand of the Father.
(more…)We may identify with this prayer, but consider this psalm first as the prayer of Jesus Christ. It was indeed zeal for His Father’s house that brought the reproach of the Jews and our sins and shame that He fell on Him.
(more…)Psalm 88 is a prayer of the suffering Christ. When we are troubled we can pray this with Christ. When we are well we can remember Jesus’ great sacrifice which gives us forgiveness of sins and every blessing.
(more…)When we see problems all around us, we should always remember that God loves and protects us. The world offers comfort and protection, but they eventually fail. Indeed, “Salvation belongs to the Lord!” and Jesus proved to be our savior when He died for our sins.
(more…)In this psalm, we pray for Zion, whose destruction is strewn about us. Historically, this refers to Jerusalem which was destroyed by Babylon, but as always Zion is representative of God’s people. We are a mess, but we pray that God’s glory may return and bring about a faithful response from the nations.
(more…)When we try to keep our sin inside us, we suffer its punishment in our bodies. Only by speaking it in confession to God can we be healed and made whole.
