In this psalm, we pray for Zion, whose destruction is strewn about us. Historically, this refers to Jerusalem which was destroyed by Babylon, but as always Zion is representative of God’s people. We are a mess, but we pray that God’s glory may return and bring about a faithful response from the nations.

(more…)This portion of Psalm 78 recounts the plagues God sent on Egypt, from rivers of blood to the shedding of the blood of the firstborn. All this was to secure the freedom of His flock, the people of Israel. The blood of Christ was paid for our freedom.
